NCS Autumn Programme

This opportunity is exclusively for Year 12 students in Coventry who did not take part (in Yr 11) in the Summer Programme. (those students can get involved in other NCS volunteering projects such as Changemakers which runs throughout the year).

All students were given an information pack and if interested and able to devote the time, should apply as soon as possible as there are limited spaces and it will be popular. Please discuss and we do have a few extra copies in the 6th Form office or you can find the information to register/apply on the NCS website -

This is a varied programme including a Residential, which will be Indoors so they will be kept warm! Students will acquire those skills essential for the future and be able to add to their CV and discuss at any future interviews.

There is a £50 charge but this can be reduced to £10 in certain instances; however, we do not want anyone to consider finance a barrier so please discuss with myself or Phoebe Wright at the NCS office (LEBC).

We have had a busy time Career-wise for Year 11 students!

  • Last week the Strive for Success sessions took place so now all students should have taken part in this, encouraging them to succeed and apply themselves to future tasks.
  • This week we have Coventry College delivering a Teams Talk on courses available in Further Education.
  • Additionally, some students will be attending 2 sessions on Communications and Networking deliver by volunteers from DHL, which should prove to help in improving their confidence for the future.
  • Plus all students will have received a 6th form interview to see about their chosen subjects plus ensuring some students have Plan Bs and have made at least one application to either 6th Form, College or Apprenticeships
  • Finally, today Year 11 students received a talk from the National Citizen Service (NCS) to inform them about a fantastic opportunity available to them over the summer holidays:-

The NCS programme offers young people, aged 16-17 (or age 15 and in Year 11), a once in a lifetime opportunity to do something meaningful during their summer break, as well as a chance to develop key skills for employment whilst taking on new challenges that will set them up for adult life. They'll also do something good for their local community, carrying out a project to support a cause they care about. We've seen first-hand what an amazing feeling of accomplishment and increased confidence this brings. Throughout 2021, teenagers on NCS donated 500,000 hours of their time to help rebuild their communities following the pandemic, showing what a difference young people can make when they work together towards a goal.

Yr 11 Mock Interviews November 2021

All students had the experience of attending a mock interview, where they had prepared and answered generic questions, which could be asked in a real-life situation. Volunteers from a variety of professional backgrounds conducted the interviews and were hugely impressed by our students. They all said they would gladly offer their services again, as the students had all given their best and were so interesting showing their personality and wide interests. Each student received both verbal and written Feedback to help them move forward and to reflect on how well they had done & where they could improve. All students should be justly proud of themselves – Well Done!

Some of the comments included –

  • ‘An absolute joy!’
  • ‘Very focussed & has a definite career pathway’
  • ‘displayed a great deal of preparation & self-awareness’
  • ‘demonstrated a high level of maturity & clarity; one of the best candidates I have ever interviewed!’
  • ‘Excellent Interview technique; clearly tried and applied maximum effort!’
