About life here at West Coventry Academy



Here at West Coventry Academy we believe that the right careers advice throughout a students’ time with us is crucial in helping them make the right decisions about their future and provides direction and purpose to their journey with us. 

We employ a full time careers Officer, Chris Day.

Her responsibilities include:

  • Providing targeted support for Year 11-13 to help them make important decisions about final destinations
  • Advice to Year 8 and Year 11 as they make their GCSE subject choices and make applications to Post 16 providers
  • Organising and leading on career related educational visits to events such as the Skills Show
  • Leading on organising Year 10 Work Experience (ALL students participate in a two week work experience at the end of Year 10)
  • Leading on whole school PHSE Days which have a careers focus.

College Information

Please check local Colleges’ Websites for up-to-date Information re Interviews/Open Events/Enrolments, but information as it stands:

  • Coventry College – Closed 19th March – all planned Interviews are postponed
  • Solihull College – Open this Week still (for Interviews etc)
  • Warwickshire – Open this week. Open Events next week beginning 23rd March have been cancelled, however there are Virtual Open Events. Everyone should like or follow the relevant college profile(s) on Facebook / Twitter / Instagram and they will receive a notification at the start of the Virtual Open Event, and then they can tune in to our Live Welcome and Q&A session.

Any students who are interested in the Apprenticeship Route – please access the Government Apprenticeship website plus local Training Providers and Employers’ own websites:-

Anyone can search for local apprenticeships however students will need to create an account to then apply for vacancies

Local Training Providers/Colleges who support Apprenticeships. They do have SOME apprenticeships but will also support you in your search, however students needs to also be proactive as there are no guarantees.  Business, Childcare & Early Years, Computing, Construction Trades, Digital, Engineering, Hospitality & Catering, Media & Interactive Media, Motor Vehicle, Teacher Training Hairdressing, Early Years, Accounting, Business Admin, Customer Service, Health & Social Care, ….  Sports, Hairdressing, Beauty, Business Admin, IT, Classroom Assistant,  Teaching Assistants, Sports   Search for Apprenticeships offered by local Councils such as Coventry City Council, Solihull, Warwickshire  IT working in Primary Schools  IT, Digital Media, Technical - Engineering - Engineering Health, Business, IT ….

Running Intensive Day courses at weekends &/or 12 sessions from March – June 5.30-8pm. Full commitment is required
