What Will You Do?
This qualification is particularly attractive because of the real-world relevance and close alignment with industrial practice – allowing students to achieve a real understanding of their subject that’s a true fit with the needs of the workplace. It is assessed by 75% coursework and 25% exam, suiting students who prefer a coursework-based method of assessment.
Key Stage 4 Curriculum
Assessment Details:
Students will complete two compulsory units:
Unit 1: Understanding Computer Systems
This unit is assessed by an external exam, and is worth 25% of the final grade.
Content of this unit includes:
- Devices, software, and configurations
- Data capture, validation and transfer
- Communication and collaborative working
- ICT legislation and ethical issues
Unit 2: Using ICT to create business solutions
This unit is assessed internally with written coursework, and is worth 25% of the final grade.
Content of this unit includes:
- Databases and mail merge
- Spreadsheets
- Publishing and document design
- Presentations
- E-mail
Students then complete two additional units that are worth 25% each from options such as:
- Creating dynamic products using sound and vision
- Creating an interactive product using multimedia components
- Introduction to computer programming
- Creating digital images
