I’m Jane Jones and I would very much love to be considered to represent parents on the Governing Body at West Coventry Academy.

I have three children, two of whom are currently in Year 9 and Year 11 at WCA. I am an experienced secondary school teacher of Modern Languages and have also worked to develop the teaching of languages in Coventry schools.

For the last 7 years I have been on the Governing Body at Park Hill Primary School. During the last 4 years I was the Chair of Governors and worked to forge links with West Coventry Academy. I have been the lead Governor for Safeguarding, Special Educational Needs & Disabilities and Staff Wellbeing. I also supported the writing of the School Improvement Plan and regularly visited the school to monitor different aspects of the curriculum and school life.

I am passionate about education and the need to support our school. As a Governor I would hope to be a presence at school events and during the school day. It is essential that staff and parents know their Governors and therefore can work together as a school community for the benefit of our pupils. My experience working in both secondary and primary schools would support the work already being done to develop closer links with our feeder primary schools and ensure that West Coventry Academy is the school of choice in this area.

As a parent of a child with Special Educational Needs, I am acutely aware of the challenges facing children and families as they go through the education system. I am a confident and diplomatic communicator and have often liaised between parents and school to resolve problems and concerns. In addition, I am approachable and empathetic and I believe that these qualities will enable me to be a supportive, parental voice on the West Coventry Academy Governing Body.

My name is Adam Carey and I have 2 children who currently attend the school, with another child set to follow them in the next 3 years. Like every other parent I want the very best for my children and a school environment which will allow them to be happy, confident and achieve their potential. I was previously a Parent Governor at my son’s Primary school in Surrey, and during my time as a Governor I was involved in many meetings and votes which helped to assist the school in improving its standing and reputation both within the local community and School League tables. I also took an active role within the Finance Committee.

Besides my previous experience as a Parent Governor, in my personal life I am a Consultant for ERP (Accounting) software. My client base is nationwide and includes Financial institutions, Schools and Charities. This diverse mix of organisations gives me a unique understanding of the various challenges faced both geographically and professionally. My wife is a teacher of 17 years so education also plays a large part in my private life as well.

I would like to be considered for Parent Governor because I wish to contribute in the governance and future development of the school. I am not afraid to ask difficult questions and I am used to speaking out and up for what I believe is important. As Parents we need to support the school but also challenge and scrutinise when necessary to ensure the best way forward.

I am 44 and have two children Daniel and Georgina and married to my husband Steve for 19 years.

I am a Store Manager for Sainsburys and have 400 colleagues who work for me including a management team of 19 heads. Previously to being a store manager I held various roles including being HR business partner.

Whilst work keeps me busy in my spare time I enjoy keeping fit walking playing badminton and meeting up with friends.

I am interested in becoming a governor as I believe my background skills could be useful. I also want to be able to make a difference in the community and am passionate about opportunities we give young adults as they are growing up.

I am CRB checked as I hold a personal beers, wines and spirits licence and a premises licence holder.
